Job overview

Be responsible for support of the MDT meetings (Retrieving slides, printing report and filing of both slides and forms) as detailed in department standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

Provide efficient and accurate secretarial support for the Histology Department

 

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for support of the MDT meetings (Retrieving slides, printing report and filing of both slides and forms) as detailed in department standard operating procedures (SOP’s).

 Assist with the secretarial work for Histopathologists, including providing

 A fast-accurate audio typing service using both copy typing and electronic recordings.

 Using a range of software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, WinPath, PAS.

 Meeting the departmental standards of style and format.

 Providing secretarial support to the Pathologists connected with their responsibilities as Pathologists to HM Coroner and all supplementary work arising from this work e.g. from the Coroner’s Officers/Clinicians/GPs/Relatives/Hospital Management.

 Providing general secretarial support for all aspects of Histopathology Laboratory administration.

 Enter surgical macroscopic and microscopic results onto the Histopathology computer system quickly to meet deadlines for other areas of the department.

 Ensuring the daily distribution of completed histopathology reports by post and or email.

 Prepare and send tissue blocks or microscope slides to other hospitals for second opinions or specialist investigations.

 Typing and distribution of post mortem reports as required.

 Dealing with telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action.

 Identifying unreported surgical cases and taking appropriate action.

  • A Levels or NVQ 3 equivalent Education
  • Recognised typing qualification NVQ3 or equivalent training & experience.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy Accuracy

  • Previous Secretarial Experience
