Applications are invited for this opportunity to join the vibrant digital programme team as an Technical Project Manager. The role will make a significant contribution to the Trust’s vision of becoming a Digital Hospital, which we believe will improve the working lives of our staff and the overall experience, health, and safety of our patients.
The successful candidate will have previous experience in project management and a keen interest in developing change management and technical skills, along with a strong interest in empowering staff through the use of technology.
Main duties of the job
You will have responsibility for projects deploying new systems and equipment where you will be able to demonstrate your communication skills and a good understanding of project management principles and information technology. You will be dynamic and outgoing, good at putting people immediately at ease, and possess the desire to improve the working lives of staff and safety of patients. You will be expected to develop good working relationships with all potential stakeholders.
The post-holder will occasionally be required to work outside normal working hours during project go-live events.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY RESULT AREAS
To have made an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes.
- Full delivery of assigned projects, meeting deadlines throughout the project life cycle
- Development of all project documentation to a high standard
- Tracking of project budgets and expenditure, and project objectives and risks
- Tracking and delivery of the benefits of each project in collaboration with the Benefits Manager
- Communication and engagement with staff at all levels to ensure that there is understanding around the Digital programme and the benefits it can deliver
Management of all projects to PRINCE2 standards.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to at least degree level
- Post graduate study or equivalent
- Accreditation in project management, preferably PRINCE 2
Desirable criteria
- Computer Science degree or similar qualification
- PRINCE2 Practitioner (or qualification in another recognised project management methodology)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in healthcare (preferably the NHS)
- Significant IT Project Management experience in a complex environment
Desirable criteria
- NHS experience in Digital or IT related capacity
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of NHS England’s Digital Strategies
- Insight into the workings of an NHS Digital Programme team
- Good familiarity with PRINCE 2 documentation suite
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of secondary healthcare systems
- Understanding of clinical and non-clinical healthcare processes
Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications including MS Project
- Able to produce project documentation and reports to a high standard
- Able to create correspondence and devise visual presentations requiring accurate use of English
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and engage with staff who may be adverse or resistant to change
- Ability to influence at senior level
Desirable criteria
- General knowledge and understanding of technical IT systems (e.g. LAN/WAN networking, PCs, servers, databases, etc.)
Other Requirements

- Able to work under pressure and to defined deadlines
- Able to make decisions based on highly complex and sometimes incomplete information
Desirable criteria
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. project teams comprising clinical and non-clinical staff)

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
