Maternity Immunisation Nurse/Midwife

Job overview
It is an exciting time to be joining Ashford and St Peters NHS Trust. The Antenatal clinic team are looking for a nurse to be an advocate for Public Health implementing a vaccination programmes for our maternity service users.
This role will see you work with the antenatal clinical lead to further implement clinics in the maternity services, safely delivering BCGs, Anti D, whooping cough, RSV,covid and seasonal flu vaccinations. The successful candidate will be a confident nurse/midwife providing our services users with relevant advice and health promotion.
ASPH are proud to provide a homebirth service, have an amazing alongside birthing centre, we have a level 3 Neonatal Unit. Our experience varies from supporting uncomplicated pregnancies to developing care plans for our high risk maternal and fetal medicine service. An MDT approach is always used within these services, and we work extremely closely with our NICU team to provide the best outcome for babies that require their specialist care.

Main duties of the job
To contribute to the delivery of a high quality public health & immunisation programme for pregnant women and new born babies at ASPH.
To take a woman-centred and public health approach to improve health and tackle inequalities, specifically raise the level of immunisation uptake at ASPH.
To support the planning and implementation of the immunisation programme and public Health agenda delivery for pregnant women and their babies within Maternity Services.
To provide advice, information and promote immunisation Including Public Health Screening programme to pregnant women and to provide support and education to other staff.
To maintain and update electronic records.
To provide personalised care and support to all women accessing our services within the community for antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
To develop and implement systems to evaluate and facilitate service changes as well as disseminate information to women, partners and health professionals about the Pregnancy Immunisations and BCG immunisations agenda.
To ensure that databases and clinical systems are maintained relating to the uptake of vaccinations and that relevant figures are submitted in a timely manner as required by NHS England Screening and Immunisation regional team.
Feedback to the screening lead any data held regarding immunisation uptake.
To perform phlebotomy, additional maternity venepuncture and administer other injections as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Ensure professional and clinical standards are maintained and developed in response to new evidence.
Act as a supportive professional role model for nursing/midwifery, providing care for women in line with current evidence, vaccination policies and guidelines in accordance with the NMC Code
Maintain awareness of national developments within pregnancy and BCG immunisation and disseminate such information.
To assess, implement and evaluate the Pregnancy and BCG Immunisation programmes in line with the service specification.
In conjunction with the screening team, develop an environment which supports the value of the vaccination programme for pregnant women.
To act as an advocate for all pregnant women
To ensure that vaccines are stored and used in accordance with the organisational policies and guidance.
To promote health education for the woman and her family at all times.
To undertake opportunistic approach to delivering the programme as necessary.
To provide support for Midwifery members of staff and colleagues, regarding the programme.

Qualifications and further training
Essential criteria
- Must be an NMC registered nurse/midwife in the UK
- Must have completed a nursing/maternity preceptorship programme
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of further training topics relevant to maternity
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Competent in cannulation and IV drug administration
- Teaching and assessing skills.
- Organising & planning skills.
- Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team.
- Trust vision and values, strategic objectives and key work programmes.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
