St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, Surrey is situated in greenbelt parkland between Woking and Chertsey near junction 11 of the M25. It is also close to junction 2 of the M3 with good transport links to the surrounding area.

The main centres of population served by the hospital are Woking, Weybridge, Chertsey, Staines and Walton on Thames. Originally St. Peter’s Hospital was built to serve casualties of the Second World War. Over the years, the Hospital has been rebuilt, developed and extended to include maternity services, a department/clinic area and a new theatre complex.

Services include:

  • Accident and emergency services
  • Intensive care
  • Emergency surgical and medical care
  • Elective and day-case surgery
  • Orthopaedics (Rowley Bristow unit)
  • Maternity care
  • Paediatric services (children’s services)
  • Neonatal intensive care unit which provides care for acutely ill babies
  • Outpatients and diagnostics; X ray, ultrasound, CT scans, endoscopy (using cameras to look inside the body) and MRI scans
  • Pathology services (provided through the Surrey and Berkshire Pathology Service)

Ashford Hospital, situated on the A30 to the west of London, close to the junction 13 of the M25 and Heathrow Airport.

The hospital continues to provide a wide range of medical and mainly day surgical services, outpatients services, ophthalmology, inpatient rehabilitation, and includes the Ashford Walk-in Centre (run by CSH Surrey).

The main centres of population served by the hospital are Ashford, Staines, Sunbury, Shepperton, Feltham, Hanworth, Bedfont, Hampton, Teddington, Wraysbury and Heathrow Airport.

  • Elective Surgery
  • Ophthalmology
  • Outpatients (including paediatrics) and diagnostics; X ray, ultrasound, and MRI scans
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation
  • Outpatient Midwifery hub

Job overview

This is an exciting time for an exceptional medical leader to join as our Chief Medical Officer (CMO), when we are due to publish our first Clinical Strategy which will set out our commitments for the next five years for patients, staff and the organisation.

We are also near completion of two key developments that will benefit our patients in North West Surrey and across the wider Surrey Heartlands health and care system; a new dedicated centre of surgical excellence at Ashford Hospital, and a Community Diagnostic Centre at Woking Community Hospital, both of which will bring great benefits for our patients.

Main duties of the job

As a full member of the Trust Board, the CMO will foster the respect of medical colleagues, inspiring teams to deliver and improve the care we offer our patients. You will be highly driven, goal and action orientated, have a talent for inspiring and motivating teams, with a track record of delivery. 

You will have had significant experience of driving quality and safety improvements in a complex environment, working with senior leadership teams and boards and will use this experience to represent the Trust within the Integrated Care System, North West Surrey Alliance Place Based teams, and with Primary Care, local provider organisations and other providers of care to maintain and enhance positive relationships and integrated working.
