Job overview
Epsom and St Helier hospitals are looking for two Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Gastroenterology department for 1 year. The post holder will provide specialist care to patients, we are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and patient care focused doctor.
They will have 1 to 2 Endoscopy training lists per week, as well as 2 specialist Gastroenterology clinics. Working within the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will play a key role, for both patients and health care professionals. The post will provide broad exposure in general medicine and gastroenterology.
There will be opportunity to participate in audit work and research, participating in clinical governance and academic projects. Educational opportunities available include cancer MDT, biologics MDT and benign radiology meeting. The post holder will need to demonstrate safe use of equipment and efficiency in using the resources available. The post holder will be responsible to act in accordance with local policies and procedures agreed by the Trust
Main duties of the job
- Assisting consultants in the outpatient clinics and wards.
- Participation in the Middle Grade on call rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues’ absence.
- Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the specialty and referred to the specialty.
- Attending clinics and assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
- Conducting daily inpatient ward rounds under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors in the care of these patients.
- Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
- Communication with other team members as appropriate.
- Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
- Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.
- To make sure that the guidance from the General Medical Council on Good Medical Practice is at the centre of your clinical practice.
- To keep up to date in medical knowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patient.
Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interests of patient care, and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the clinical leadership team.

Essential criteria
- · MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- · Full registration with GMC Registration
- • MRCP PACES or equivalent degree

- • Prizes or honours in MBBS or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience after graduation with minimum two years of Core Medical training or equivalent
- • Experience of general internal medicine
- • Maintaining good medical practice

Desirable criteria
- • Experience of Medicine and other medical specialties at ST3 level equivalent and above
- Gastroenterology experience
