Therapy Technician (inpatient rehab)

We have created this new position to work alongside our existing Techs and Assistants supporting the registered OTs and Physios to rehab our patients.

Working at Farnham Hospital you will be undertaking delegated assessments and treatments with patients and actively contributing to service development.

With previous therapy and rehab experience you will motivate patients, engage with them and their carers/relatives and be a proactive member of the MDT.

You will receive monthly 1:1 supervision and an ongoing commitment to support you with your CPD.

The team works 7 days a week and you will be rostered accordingly to cover weekends on a rota basis.

To work with patients providing assessment, rehabilitation, support and treatment programmes; undertaking home visits as appropriate. Working as a trusted assessor undertaking initial assessments and functional assessments as delegated by registered staff and supporting clinical staff with treatment and rehab input. To work within scope of competence.

 

To be proficient, knowledgeable and competent in rehab and functional assessment.  Educated to Foundation Degree, Level 5 NVQ in Health and Social Care or be able to evidence that they are working towards one of these qualifications. To continue to develop in the role through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competences, to be determined by the needs of patients, the service and the team.

1.    Provide patient focused care, support, education rehabilitation to patients to support the delivery of an agreed plan of care. Promote patient independence. Support the patients to achieve their individualised goals

2.    Undertake initial assessments of new patients as delegated by the registered staff including early identification of risks and development of appropriate care plans

3.    Provide the range of clinical support as required within Heathlands and Intermediate Care

4.    Following training, be responsible for a clinical case load in consultation with the relevant professionals and following codes of practice and professional guidelines

5.    Observe and report all changes in patients’ condition to relevant professional, so that appropriate actions can be taken, recorded and acted upon. To seek advice in this situation and also in progression of specialised programme of treatment or if uncertainty in how to proceed

6.    Assist in the emergency resuscitation of patients as per organisational policy

7.    Demonstrate safe and effective moving and handling and positioning skills specific to patients’ care.  This may include use of specialist equipment

8.    Demonstrate safe and effective skills in helping patients with basic splints, collars and adaptive equipment

9.    To work with patients both in a ward setting and at times the community, as appropriate

10. Demonstrate empathy and skill and effective communication in working with all patients

11. Complete Band 4 core competencies within agreed time scale, up to a maximum of one year

12. Be enrolled on Associate Practitioner course (or equivalent) within one year, if you do not already hold the same or equivalent qualification

13. Record and report information in a timely and accurate manner, in line with policies and standards including statistical data

14. Maintain good relationships with all members of the team and others who are involved in patient care, in order that the best quality of care can be delivered, and all are well informed

15. Participate in team projects, including audit and quality initiatives as requested

16. Be responsible arranging appointments with patients and ensuring visits are planned to maximise efficiency

17. Monitor supplies and check equipment and report shortages/ faults to manager in charge to ensure supplies do not run out

18. Report adverse incidents and take part in meeting/investigations as appropriate to ensure that lessons are learnt from mistakes and that team working is enhanced

19. Ensure that appropriate health and safety policies are followed; in particular manual handling, provision of equipment, infection control, lone working and the management of the unwell patient

20. Due to the nature of rehabilitation and support within this post there is a requirement for light physical effort, with frequent requirement for moderate physical effort over several long periods, plus occasional short termed intense physical effort due to the variable nature of individual rehabilitation plans
