We have a vacancy for a Biomedical Scientist Band 6 in Biochemistry with a desire to work as part of one of the largest NHS-led Pathology Services in the South of England. We are specifically looking for an experienced candidate to support our 24/7 shift system.
Applicants MUST have HCPC registration and relevant NHS laboratory experience.
Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services - (A joint venture with Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust).

We will support your development via our well-established Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) CPD programme. This development is driven by a large team of experts who include Consultant staff who are leaders in the field of Clinical Biochemistry. In addition, we support development of staff with internal and external courses within the broader Blood Sciences portfolio.
Main duties of the job
DIMENSIONS OF JOB:
You will liaise closely with the Line manager in providing a high quality technical service that builds on the standards defined by the UKAS and ISO 15189:2022. You will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with all grades of staff both technical and medical to ensure the effective delivery of the technical service.
You will work in rotation within all sections of Biochemistry laboratory. The laboratory is well equipped with a Winpath Enterprise Lab Information Management System (LIMS), Abbott's Alinity CI analysers, GLP automation system, TOSOH G11, Uvikon XL Spectrophotometer, and Osmo Pro Multi-Sample Micro-Osmometer, Chloride and Placental Growth Factor meters

Financial & Management
- To make best use of consumables and reagents in an efficient manner.
- To highlight to senior staff where improvements may be made that will decrease our costs and/or improve service delivery
Personnel & Training
- To be involved in the robust and effective CPD / appraisal processes across BSPS.
- To train, supervise and aid in the development of other BMS grades, trainee BMS and support workers, and direct their duties as requested by senior staff.
- To participate in job experience and recruiting schemes by representing the Trust, Department and Profession at and within these events.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- BSc in Biomedical sciences
- HCPC registration in Biomedical sciences
- IBMS Specialist portfolio
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- M.Sc Biomedical Science
- IBMS member at member level
