B7 Project Manager BSPS

Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) is a joint venture between Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust delivering pathology services to both acute and primary care patients across the network area. Currently the team is split across 3 sites, Frimley Park, Wexham Park and the Royal Berkshire Hospital and you may be asked to work at any of the sites so that services can be maintained.

We need a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to help us support our clinical colleagues with their IT requirements. The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate an understanding of Project Management with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team or to lead the project teams involved in the design, integration and implementation of new systems.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as dealing with a wide range of clinical staff and associated professionals is a significant aspect of this role.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the Pathology IT Senior team and other colleagues as we move forward in the growth of BSPS.

DIMENSIONS OF JOB:  

The post-holder will  

  • Lead on the management of a number of BSPS Information Management & Technology (IM&T) projects. The majority of projects will be IT Application Deployments. 

  • Facilitate project governance arrangements which for a standard project would include a Project Review Board chaired by an SRO and a working group chaired by the post holder.  

  • Use the BSPS standard project management approach  

  • Ensure all projects are well documented  

  • Ensure projects are delivered to time, budget and requirements are met and planned benefits are delivered.  

  • Undertake scoping, specifying and forecasting project budgets  

  • Managing project budgets throughout the project life cycle 

  • Identifying appropriate resources and capabilities, selecting and managing specialist skilled contractors for key projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Planning and organising  

  • Responsible for short, medium and long-term project planning 

  • Responsible for the project’s overall progress and use of resources  

  • Producing business cases that impact organisation wide  

  • Ensuring that all project documentation is delivered to a high level in line with BSPS Pathology standards including project plans, risk and issue logs and resource forecasts.  

  • Where required complete other project documentation required by the Programme Manager such as Project initiation documents, project closure and lessons learned reports.  

  • Developing plans to address project risks and issues and taking action to implement 

  • Escalating project risks and issues that cannot be resolved at project level.  

  • Collaborating with other project managers on dependencies across the complete BSPS project portfolio  

  • Ensuring that changes within the project are managed and that the impact of any individual project change is related back to its impact upon the BSPS programme as a whole 

  • Ensuring that BSPS agreed change control procedures are implemented and are actively used to assess the effect of any change to the project in terms of cost, timescales and resources.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of PRINCE 2 and / or other project management qualification.

Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Able to develop highly effective relationships with key stakeholders including consultants, senior nurses and senior managers.
  • Communicating effectively and development of communication strategies.
  • Confident to deliver presentations to large groups including Board members (executive and non- executive)
  • Pro-active.
  • Problem solving.
  • Good organisational / time management skills.

Specialist Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 years project management experience (in complex NHS hospital environments or equivalent).
  • Experience of delivering and completing IM&T project sof at least £100K in value or over 20 stakeholders.
  • Evidence of managing multiple projects at a time.
  • Experience of managing risk
  • Experience in benefits management.
