We are seeking 3 highly motivated Registered Nurse with the skills, knowledge, and competencies at band 6 relevant to community nursing.  Throughout the Specialist Practice Qualification, you will work under the direction of, and full supervision of a qualified District Nurse

Applicants must be available for the full 52 weeks of the year and are expected to attend all taught components of the course and the required practice placement hours, Monday to Sunday.

Successful applicants will also need to apply for the primary and community care programme with the University of surrey through a telephone interview.  You will need evidence of NMC registration, your degree, proof of GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths and previous study at level 6.

Main duties of the job

The post holder follow the University of Surrey District Nursing Specialist Practice Qualification (DN SPQ) programme. They will work under the direction and supervision of a Procare Community Services Community Practice Assessor / Supervisor and will be supported by a personal tutor from the University of Surrey for the duration of the 12 month programme.
To deliver Community nursing care in accordance with national and local policy and guidance and in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council while working towards the DN SPQ.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

 

This year, Procare Community Services (PCS) have 3 places for secondment on the District Nurse Specialist Practice Qualification (SPQ) course across Guildford and Waverley in Surrey.  During the course, students are paid Band 6 AfC, and subject to interview and successful completion of the SPQ, our District Nurses are band 7.

The course starts with Surrey University in September 2025 and includes a combination of 50% academic theory and 50% clinical practice placement and will require self-directed study. The course timetable Over the 52 weeks students will have support from a practice assessor from PCS and a University personal tutor. Holiday is allocated within the University timetable.

 

Modules include Introduction to Public Health, Advancing Practice in Long term conditions, Essentials of Specialist Practice and Health assessment, Patient safety, quality and risk, V300 independent prescribing, Research and Leadership. The V300 independent prescribing module is an optional module, if this flow is not undertaken, there will be an optional module to choose alongside Advanced Medicines Management.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Level 1 Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
  • Educated to level 6 / degree level in relevant area
  • Assessor Supervisor / Mentorship qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience undertaking holistic assessments of patients, including those with multiple pathology and complex health and social needs
  • Broad range of clinical skills and competencies relevant to adult community nursing
