Job overview

The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time (7.25 PA) Locum Resident Consultant Paediatrician with an interest/expertise in Endocrinology.

The Consultant will be expected to work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards in paediatric medical care. They will be expected to:

·         Be enthusiastic to develop the service and promote improved multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children

·         Promote the team approach to children’s care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.

·         Partake in Consultant appraisal and revalidation

·         Prior agreement to undertake any Supporting Professional Agreement activities elsewhere must be obtained from the Clinical Director.

·         Be the lead Local Paediatric Consultant for Endocrinology.

We have regular student placements from Southampton and Physicians Associates from the University of Surrey. The post-holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Main duties of the job

This post consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity with the latter organised to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside office hours. Outpatient work will depend on the special interest of the successful applicant. 

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at the interview stage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is planned to provide 7 PAs of support to the Paediatric unit and consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity, with the latter designed to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside of office hours. Outpatient work will consist of Endocrinology and General clinics.

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a Licence to practice with the GMC
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Up to date APLS/EPLS and NLS
Desirable criteria
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Paediatrics
  • Teaching/Education Qualification
  • Higher Degree

Experience
