In this role you will:


•    Manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects with significant organisational and system-wide implications, requiring strong leadership, decision-making, and relationship management skills. 
•    Have end-to-end responsibility for project lifecycle management, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring alignment with strategic workforce objectives. 
•    Operate as a delivery enabler to others providing expertise, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring programme/project success through collaboration, innovation, and robust governance processes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Project Manager will provide project management and programme/portfolio support for Surrey Heartlands’ People Scaling Team.

The Project Manager will manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects with significant organisational and system-wide implications, requiring strong leadership, decision-making, and relationship management skills. They will have end-to-end responsibility for project lifecycle management, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring alignment with strategic workforce objectives. They will operate as a delivery enabler to others providing expertise, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring programme/project success through collaboration, innovation, and robust governance processes.

This role requires a proactive, organised individual who can manage competing priorities and work independently, ensuring the timely delivery of projects, aligned to the wider People Scaling Strategy and Portfolio. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the department's success, ensuring effective communication and seamless coordination.

They will also support programme managers with foundation and discovery work and support the senior team with the management of the People Scaling Board. The post holder will also be responsible for establishing and enabling networks and working groups with key stakeholders, taking both a cultural/professional development and outcomes-based approach.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated degree level OR can demonstrate experience of working at an equivalent level.
  • Formal project management training qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM, PMI) OR demonstrate experience of using project management methodologies.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and knowledge to post graduate diploma level or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • Experience of influencing without direct authority
  • Experience of leading projects in a challenging and complex environment
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable understanding of HR/workforce/people practices and software
  • Understanding of the local NHS landscape and experience of aligning projects to national strategy.
  • Experience of working collaboratively, involving multiple organisations.
