Job overview

The recent award of NIHR funding to establish a joint NIHR Clinical Research Facility with the University of Surrey has created an exciting, new opportunity for a band 6 research practitioner.

The post holder will be in contact with a broad professional group, as well as members of the public and research sponsors, therefore excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are paramount.

This opportunity will see you using your in-depth knowledge in research, trial protocols and research methodologies alongside your expert clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will have the opportunity to undertake clinical trials, with a specific focus on early phase research which could affect patient outcomes. You will be working within our NIHR Royal Surrey Clinical Research Facility and across the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be involved in the planning, set-up and delivery of research, providing excellent care for patients as well as collecting and reporting on data to the highest standards as expected for clinical research.

Working within the exceptionally experienced and highly motivated multi-disciplinary team, every day you will collaborate closely to support, develop and deliver research projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role of the research practitioner/nurse will be to support the planning, set up and delivery of research within the NIHR Royal Surrey CRF (a partnership between The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust (RSFT) and the University of Surrey (UoS). The role will involve planning visits, screening and monitoring patients during studies, assisting with clinical investigations and managing the collection and documentation of accurate data. The research nurse will work collaboratively with all teams to provide excellent care for patients involved in clinical trials.

The role involves using an in depth knowledge of research methodology and knowledge of the requirements of local, national and international research regulations. 

•    To assist the NIHR Royal Surrey CRF team in the provision of high quality, research based, care that is patient focused.
•    To support the team leader in the management and facilitation of the development of staff creating an effective team

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Level One Registration (if applying as a nurse)
  • Graduate level qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience at similar level in relevant field.
Desirable criteria
  • Registered on Clinical Research Practitioner register (if RP

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • At significant clinical/research experience
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working and collaborating with other agencies
  • Management of resources
  • Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team, as well as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
