Job overview

The post is based at the award-winning Stokes Centre for Urology Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford and is for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon.

The job is a full time post, comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). The post holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility regarding the job plan and consider annualised job planning. 

The post has been created to ensure the high quality provision of urological services at the Royal Surrey, which will include supporting cancer diagnostic and treatment pathways, as well as supporting the general Urology workload. In partnership with Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Trust, this post will also ensure that continuity of care between the hospitals is optimised regarding patients with prostate and bladder cancer.

The post holder will be a key member of the Urology team and will involve undertaking both general theatre and robotic surgery lists for prostate and bladder cancer as well at Outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in the general urological workload of the department, including helping to ensure that cancer wait times and the Keogh standards are met. The post is for a Urological Surgeon with experience in robotic pelvic surgery.  They will be placed on the general on-call rota of the department. Middle grade cover is always available when on-call.

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
  • MBBS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Urology (or relevant specialty
  • Educational Supervisor qualification
  • Appraisal qualification
  • Qualification in leadership and/ or clinical management
  • Teaching/Education Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Fellowship in Urology
  • Significant evidence of experience in clinical leadership
