The Oncology division is looking for a forward thinking Clinical Oncology Consultant to join the Royal Surrey to provide Urology and Lung Tumour expertise to the Oncology division. The post holder will be based at the Royal Surrey Hospital and provide services to our satellite site at Ashford and St Peters Hospital.    

 

The Royal Surrey County Hospital Foundation Trust provides specialist Cancer and Haemato-Oncological care, including complex Cancer surgery, to the population of the South West Surrey and Hampshire, a catchment area of approximately 1.4 million. Non-surgical oncological treatment for these patients is provided at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre, which is an integral part of the Trust. There are close links with surrounding cancer units and the Surrey Clinical Research Centre.

 

Here at the Cancer Centre, we aim to provide first class, high quality care for all of our patients in a friendly and professional setting.  Our services have received national recognition and praise and our patients benefit from the latest and most innovative treatments available, delivered by a team of committed and highly skilled staff.  You will be joining our team of 28 oncologists, supported by a team of Specialist Registrars, Specialty Doctors, SHOs, AHP’s and Specialist Nurses.

 

Main duties of the job

·         To provide Oncology expertise in the management and treatment of patients with Urological and Lung Tumours and with Brachytherapy and SABR interest.

·         To be part of the MDT and clinical team

·         To be part of the  radiotherapy MDT and clinical team

·         To play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for Oncology

·         To take part in the Inpatient Consultant of the week (COW) duty rota.

·         To provide cover for fellow Consultant colleagues in respect of periods of leave and organise leave in conjunction of Consultant colleagues according to Oncology department policy.

·         To take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a 9.75 PA post for a Consultant Oncologist, with a specialist interest in Urological and Lung Tumours along with SABR and Brachytherapy techniques.  The post is based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust as well as our satellite site at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals (ASPH).

The remit of the consultant post is to work with colleagues to provide a Urology, Lung and Brachytherapy oncology service.  The post holder will provide the oncology service for the patients in the catchment of our outreach partner- Ashford and St Peters Hospitals

This role will offer Chemotherapy and systemic therapy expertise for these patients. 

This remit for the post will require a well-organised individual with good team-working skills and the ability to complete work within agreed timescales in co-operation with all staff groups and with support from senior colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Oncology (or relevant specialty) via: • CCT (CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date) • Portfolio Pathway (previously CESR)
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Relevant experience of management of Oncological emergencies
  • Recent experience of Oncology care
  • Broad oncology experience in a variety of tumor sites
