Job overview

The Transformation Manager is responsible for supporting Service Divisions transform care through identifying new business opportunities, leading on managing bids, competitive processes and internal business cases, building and forming new partnerships, improving current service provision and developing innovative approaches to service delivery.  

You will be responsible for programme managing large scale transformation projects from concept through to mobilisation working with colleagues at all levels, facilitating collaboration, including senior clinicians, executive leads, teams and service users.  You will support Division leads [which you will be assigned to one] to develop new clinical models of care, look at service improvement and improved ways of working to better meet service user needs. 

You will build a network of stakeholders across health and social care keeping up to date with innovation and best practice and lead on specific mental health Integrated Care System initiatives and priorities.

Main duties of the job

This role is suitable for someone who has an extensive understanding of transformation and delivery of strategic programmes and projects developed either within the NHS, elsewhere in the Public Sector or from the commercial sector, including consulting.  This role requires an individual to work proactively and on their initiative, with the ability to manage integrated programmes of work, working closely with Divisional, Clinical and Operational leads in transforming care.  You will need to deliver work at pace, be prepared to wok to challenging deadlines and be able to prioritise well, juggling multiple competing priorities at any given time.  

The postholder will need to have experience and understanding of working as a Senior Strategy or Clinical/Programme Manager in the health and/or social car field, with strong communications skills, excellent bid writing and business case skills, analytical capabilities, planning and programme management skills to successfully lead on projects from concept through to implementation.  Experience of clinical/service modelling and re-design would be desirable.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Business Development:

  • Lead on overseeing bids and other competitive opportunities to bring new revenue into the SABP
  • Identify, track and develop a pipeline of opportunities for SABP to pursue
  • Develop with Service Divisions solutions and models to transform services and be able to present them in a way that commissioners and other stakeholders can understand
  • Develop a network of stakeholders to support innovation and identify potential strategic partners to collaborate with
  • Undertake market analysis to generate market insights and evidence to inform options development and analysis as well as interpreting national guidance into local plans and propositions
  • Lead on selected financial and other economic and commercial evaluations, in conjunction with finance, legal and procurement teams
  • Support promotional work, in conjunction with comms. and marketing team to showcase good practice and raise SABP’s profile at a national and international level
  • Line management responsibility for mobilisation and change officers as well as ad hoc contractors for specific programmes of work
  • Budgetary responsibility for specific programmes of work

Service Transformation:

  • Work with managers, clinicians and other stakeholders to enable whole system and cross divisional approach to sharing, influencing and implementing new processes
  • Leads on expert analysis of performance/service design to help improve and shape services
  • Support Division leads identify options and needs for business cases and support divisions develop long-term strategic plans for improvement as well as actively contribute to the Trusts Annual Planning process
  • Develop models of care in conjunction with clinical leads
  • Develop and formulate business cases to a high standard, consistent with public sector requirements and the NHS
  • Help build demand and capacity and related modelling and or/projection to support business cases
  • Present highly complex ideas in ways that facilitate senior buy-in
  • Ability to make clear recommendations in complex scenarios, backed by credible recommendation

Programme Management:

  • To lead on the development of programme and project plans for transformation initiatives
  • Lead large scale workshops and meetings, across stakeholder groups(internal and external) and shape the direction of projects
  • Establish and oversee effective governance arrangements, relevant to project scope and size
  • Work on tight timescales and lead a portfolio of projects concurrently and contribute a sense of pace, urgency and challenge to meet objectives
  • Deliver concise, structure briefings for senior stakeholders
  • Manage team and wider stakeholders to deliver against agree objectives

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Formal project/programme management qualification or equivalent experience in programme delivery
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant masters/degree level qualification or equivalent clinical/professional/management experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5-8 years recent experience at a strategic level.
  • Extensive programme management experience and proven track record of successful delivery of transforming services
  • Experience of business development and demonstrable skills of commercial acumen, stakeholder management, facilitation and planning
  • Strong communication, and bid writing and business case, with experience of developing successful propositions for a variety of audiences
Desirable criteria
  • Leading bid management/business cases
  • Demonstrable skills of managing change and people, with highly developed influencing ability
  • Clinical expertise and service re-design/transformation/service improvement desirable
