Job overview
This is a rare opportunity for a senior nurse, allied health professional or social worker with a good level of safeguarding adult knowledge and experience to join the Safeguarding Adult Team at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Senior Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding Adults is a key role within the Adult Safeguarding team providing expert support to adults at risk accessing our services, their families and supporting our workforce to identify any safeguarding concerns and act appropriately working within our underpinning legal frameworks and statutory duties.
The Senior Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding Adults will role model excellent professional conduct and practice within the organisation, demonstrating a high level of SASH Trust Values and representing SASH Safeguarding internally and externally in the local safeguarding systems, providing advice and expertise for fellow professionals and ensuring that safeguarding training is delivered to a high standard.
The post holder will support the Trust Lead/Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults to provide assurance to the Trust Board and the Executive Team that all systems and statutory requirements are in place for the protection of adults at risk, who are accessing services at SASH.
The post holder will support the Trust Lead/Named Nurse for Adult Safeguarding to work closely with the divisions to develop robust, transparent safeguarding practice to ensure delivery of safer services across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Senior Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding Adults carries a responsibility across all sites and directorates of the trust to support all activities necessary to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory duties to safeguard adults at risk in compliance with the relevant legislative framework.
The post holder will work closely with the Head of Safeguarding and the Named Nurse/Midwife for Safeguarding Adults, Children and Maternity, and the Designate Nurses for Safeguarding Adults in both Surrey and West Sussex.
The Safeguarding Adults Team lead and provide oversight of the compliance of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards, this is currently a shared responsibility across the team with the Named Nurse as Trust Lead for MCA & DoLS who support our clinical teams to understand the processes required to ensure our patients who lack capacity to make certain decisions around their care needs are assessed and treated with the utmost consideration and protection at all times.
Teaching and Training our workforce is an important aspect of this role which includes teaching on the mandatory training day face to face or virtually and smaller targeted bespoke sessions with specific teams.
