Main duties of the job

The Cellular Pathology department has a vacancy for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Histology section at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.
We are looking for someone who has a Laboratory background, has great computer skills, and is competent with data entry and able to prioritise requests coming into the department.  
Good communication skills and knowledge of the Data Protection Act are essential.
This role will involve working in a laboratory environment handling patient samples which require sending away for specialist testing.  

This is a demanding but rewarding role offering a vital service to the Trust and directly impacts patient care pathways.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education to include GCSE O Levels / A Levels or NVQ level 3 or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part 1)
  • Willing to undergo relevant training.
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL
  • Basic educational qualification in mathematics

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a relevant routine laboratory

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Possess basic IT skills
  • Ability to write clearly
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Able to move between laboratories and sites as required
  • Understands need to work to deadlines.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and organise daily work
  • Confidence within parameters of role
