An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated senior nurse who is passionate about Haematological cancer to lead and develop the cross site Haematology  Cancer CNS Team.  This is a permanent Band 8a  post at 37.5 hours per week.  This is a Macmillan badged post with access to support and educational funding.

Applications for this post are invited from  nurses who have had extensive experience in haematological cancer.  We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking individual who is flexible, self-motivated, and reliable plus a good team player and leader. The successful candidate should have a degree and be willing to develop their academic and clinic practice.  They should have excellent communication skills verbally and written. They will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of national guidelines and transformative services.

The successful applicant will work as part of a well-established dynamic multi-disciplinary Haematology Cancer team who provide specialist advice, holistic care and support to patients, relatives and members of the health care teams.  They will be required to lead, develop and evaluate the Haematology Cancer service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-disciplinary framework.

The post holder will lead and manage the Haematology Cancer CNS Nursing Teams cross-site on a daily basis, ensuring that the teams provide an excellent service to the Trust through evidence based practice, education, policy and guideline development.

The Post Holder will continually develop, implement and evaluate the Haematology  Cancer Service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-professional framework 

Lead developments in practice consistent with the patient care priorities set nationally and locally.

Development of new roles or service redesign will take place in line with best practice and evidence based care.

Develop and manage nurse led clinics to streamline the haematology cancer services to improve patient experience and develop effective pathways

Maintain a high profile in clinical practice, promoting clinical excellence, initiating learning opportunities and promoting effective learning environments in all ward areas and clinic areas

The postholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the relevant setting.

Provide leadership and support for the Haematology Cancer CNS Teams cross-site

Work autonomously and demonstrate advanced practice by managing a caseload of patients and demonstrate advanced practice in the holistic assessment

Lead the development of Personalised Care for haematology cancer patients which will include the further development of the Supported Self Management programme and play an active role in the delivery and design of ‘Moving On’ and Health & Wellbeing Events 

Promote collaborative working relationships and effective communication between all members of the MDT to improve the management and outcomes of patients within the specialist area

Facilitate effective communication and co-ordinate referral of patients and carers to appropriate support services and community Trusts to promote a seamless service and thus reduce/avoid admissions and length of stay to the acute trust

  • Degree in Nursing and working towards MSc
  • Post Registration Oncology/Haematology qualification
  • Leadership & Management qualification
  • Advanced Communication Skills training
  • Mentor Prep/Teaching & Assessing qualification
  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development
  • Advanced Physical Assessment skills or willing to complete
