This is a substantive Consultant post based at Wexham Park Hospital (WPH) where one of the two Maternity Units in Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) is sited. The Trust Maternity Units were rated Good by the CQC in 2023 and have achieved all the required safety standards in Year 5 CNST

 Wexham Park Hospital (WPH) has a busy Emergency Department and a dedicated Gynaecology/Early Pregnancy SDEC area. Gynaecology outpatient clinics take place at both WPH and Heatherwood Hospital. There are three established Maternity Hubs in the area and opportunity for Consultant antenatal clinics there as well as on the WPH site. It is anticipated that the post-holder will take up the role of Labour Ward Lead Consultant on the WPH site with appropriate support. They will be working closely with the Frimley LMNS and MNVP

 Wexham Park Hospital is part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) that has 2 acute hospital sites (Wexham Park and Frimley Park Hospitals) and an elective site (Heatherwood Hospital) serving a population of nearly 900,000. FHFT is the only acute Trust is its ICS which is Frimley Health ICS. The postholder will be expected to participate in cross-site guideline and governance processes and teaching.

The allocation of programmed activities will be based on 8.5 for direct clinical care and up to 1.5 for supporting professional activities. The final job plan will be agreed with the Chief of Service and the Chief Executive or his/her representative following discussion within the Directorate. The pattern of work may alter in the future to meet changing needs and annual review meetings will take place in line with the consultant contract, job planning and appraisal arrangements.

 

The proposed timetable, each week, which has some degree of flexibility will include:

Direct Clinical Care – This includes work directly relating to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of illness. This includes emergency duties, operating sessions, ward rounds, outpatient activities, clinical diagnostic work, other patient treatment, MDTs about direct patient care and administration directly related to the above.

Special Interest –. The post holder will be supported by a comprehensive team of Specialist and Consultant Midwives, dedicated Governance and PD teams and MSWs. There is a Consultant Obstetrician with a special interest in Maternal Medicine and the Maternity Unit is part of the Thames Valley Maternal Medicine network.

  • • Entry on Specialist Register (CCT or entry expected within 6 months of interview date) or, for Mediated Entrants, entry on Specialist Registrar prior to application • MRCOG or equivalent • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice and evidence of relevant experience in specialist areas of interest
  • • Able to evaluate own clinical practice • Able to demonstrate innovative thinking • Ability to organise and develop service provision • Have a commitment to working within Trust policies and procedures as guided by the Chief of service • Have a commitment to Continuing Medical Education/ Continuing Professional Development • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels • Possess an enquiring and critical approach to work
  • • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within Obstetrics & Gynaecology • Ability to work with clinicians from medical specialties and in other organisations • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that for gaining UK CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients • Ability to work with Labour Ward MDT and formulate Obstetric guidelines • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service • Ability to manage and lead a firm • Direct experience of audit • To demonstrate innovative thinking in delivery and management of an obstetrics and gynaecology service • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates, in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to trainee specialists. • Able to facilitate teaching in high risk obstetrics and intrapartum care to doctors, midwives and allied healthcare professionals. • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
