Job overview

This post is for a substantive Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in Urogynaecology and will work closely with 3 other Consultants in the Trust with this special interest. 

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) has 2 acute hospital sites, Wexham Park Hospital (WPH) and Frimley Park Hospital (FPH), both with busy Maternity Units and Emergency Departments and a range of other services. In addition, a new “state of the art” pure elective unit (Heatherwood Hospital) was opened in 2022. FHFT serves a population of nearly 900,000 and is the only acute Trust is its ICS which is Frimley Health ICS.

The post holder will undertake their on-call and Obstetric commitments at Wexham Park Hospital. It is anticipated that the post holder will undertake their Urogynaecology clinics at Heatherwood Hospital. This will include urodynamics and procedure clinics including cystoscopy, Botox and outpatient incontinence interventions. Inpatient surgical operating sessions will be scheduled at both WPH and Heatherwood Hospitals plus opportunity to operate at FPH. The Trust gained full GIRFT accreditation in 2023.

Main duties of the job

The allocation of programmed activities will be based on 8.5 for direct clinical care and up to 1.5 for supporting professional activities. The job plan will be agreed with the Chief of Service and the Chief Executive or his/her representative following discussion within the Directorate. The pattern of work may alter in the future to meet changing needs and annual review meetings will take place in line with the consultant contract, job planning and appraisal arrangements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the on-call rota for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at WPH which includes a 1 in 20 “hot week/Consultant of the week” commitment and as well as working 5 weekends a year participating in both non-resident on-call weekends and 12 hour Consultant resident shifts on the Labour Ward Saturday and Sunday daytime.

 

Teaching: Participate fully in ST1/2, FY2 and specialist registrar teaching, undergraduate teaching of students from Southampton University, Brunel University and University of Surrey Medical Schools and the American University of the Caribbean. Some of this teaching will occur in the specially designed “Dry Skills Laboratory” and Simulation Suite located in the Postgraduate Centre.

Essential criteria
  • • Entry on Specialist Register (CCT or entry expected within 6 months of interview date) or, for Mediated Entrants, entry on Specialist Registrar prior to application • MRCOG or equivalent
  • • MRCOG or equivalent
  • • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice and evidence of relevant experience in specialist areas of interest
Desirable criteria
  • • Clinical research in the fields of special interest • Publications relevant to the fields of Obstetrics
  • • Participation in multidisciplinary team activities • Experience of Obstetric Governance and Patient Safety and Quality reviews
  • • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, directorate and working parties as appropriate • Research or publications in area of special interest
