An exceptional opportunity awaits a Band 7 Ward Manager to lead the dedicated nursing team on Ward 7, collaborating closely with a dynamic multidisciplinary team specializing in acute medical care for older adults within Older People's Medicine.

We are looking to appoint a motivated and dynamic leader to oversee patient care, ensuring it meets high standards and is evidence-based. This role carries 24-hour accountability for the ward, encompassing leadership, team management, and support for all clinical operations.

Main duties of the job

The Ward Manager will ensure that patients receive comprehensive, high-quality care focused on promoting health and managing diseases and disabilities in older adults, leveraging specialized knowledge and skills.

This role demands strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including Consultants, Heads of Nursing, Matrons, Ward Managers, TRI, and the Clinical Site Management team. Success in this role requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to navigate challenging situations in a high-paced environment with professionalism and composure.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based programmes of care in order to ensure the provision of a high standard of care.
  • Personally deliver a high standard of care to a group of patients, acting as a team leader / named nurse and clinical role model at all time
  • Ensure the provision of advice, support and health information to patients and their carers in order to promote a health-based service
  • Transports / manages people and/or items such as equipment or specimens safely and to time consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records of all clinical and legal documentation to include accident / incident reporting, with regard to NMC, statutory and Trust polices.
  • Ensures all aspects of clinical care including interventions and investigations are performed, assessed and reported upon in a timely fashion and in a manner consistent with legislation, policy and procedures.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Mentorship or equivalent teaching course
  • Experience working with Older People within an acute setting
  • Leadership training
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma / Degree level study in a clinically relevant course i.e. HDU / Acutely ill Adult / elderly care course / CCU etc

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantive 3 years' experience as a Band 6 staff nurse in an acute setting
  • Experience of managing a team and can effectively function as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • The ability to assess patients; develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care
  • The ability to support professional development and create a learning environment
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Understanding of human resources issues
  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of finance and budgetary management
  • Computer literacy experience with Electronic Records (EPIC)
