 As a result of the current post holder being promoted to a new position within the NHS,  an opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated Welsh language Translator with a flexible approach to join us, and contribute to the vital work of Swansea Bay UHB.

We are keen to hear from applicants regardless of circumstance or geographic location. Our modern headquarters, where we are championing agile working are located at Junction 41 of the M4 alongside Baglan railway station. Whilst this is the official base for this role, we would be interested to hear from people seeking flexibility in their work location. 

Previous experience and a knowledge of the work of the NHS would be an advantage, as would experience of and/or a qualification in simultaneous translation, although this is not essential.

An Annexe 21 appointment will be considered if a candidate shows potential to reach the requirements of this post; it would be at the 75% rate of the full band 5 salary.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a very strong grasp of the Welsh language and will be confident in using it to produce written documents. Experience of translation in a formal setting should be evidenced in the application. (Welsh/English. English /Welsh).

This role will see the successful candidate undertake different methods of translation. The primary being conversion of documents, including reports, letters and information leaflets. There will also be occasional transcription work from Welsh into English and vice versa.

The appointee will be expected to work accurately and have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 suite. Experience of using professional translation software would also be beneficial.

The ability to speak and write in Welsh is essential for this post.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A degree in Translation, Welsh, or other connected field.
  • A willingness to use the latest technology to translate written texts
  • Knowledge and experience of using MS Office/365
Desirable criteria
  • Masters Degree in Welsh or relevant subject and/or a qualification in Professional Translation Studies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a Translator gained either in the workplace or as part of a training programme.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent writing skills in Welsh and English
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and the ability to manage a heavy workload which will often have tight deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS or an understanding of our work.
