Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Swansea Bay UHB Physiotherapy department in our new Lifestyle and Prehabilitation services. Working as a Physiotherapy assistant to deliver exercise classes across varied settings and supporting clinics alongside chartered Physiotherapist and other allied health professionals (AHPs). The role includes providing exercise and lifestyle support to patients under lifestyle services for varied health conditions. Supporting qualified Physiotherapists to deliver appropriate land and water-based exercise classes. Additional aspects of the role could include supporting qualified Physiotherapists, assessing patient’s mobility and providing walking aids or assisting to run patient clinics and workshops. The new SBUHB Lifestyle service sits within Primary care and Therapies.

A unique service offering patients lifestyle support to help self-manage Osteoarthritis and other health conditions through exercise and weight management programmes. The role includes working as a Physiotherapy assistant across a variety of patient exercise classes. It also includes supporting out-patient clinics and using our digital data collection system to monitor patients’ health symptoms whilst under our services. There may be some administrative duties within the role to also support non-clinical patient activity around clinics. 

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the physiotherapy Lifestyle Prehab team and assist in the delivery of the physiotherapy service to patients, with or without direct supervision of the physiotherapist, within all areas of the physiotherapy service.
  • To support a qualified Physiotherapist deliver a range of land based and water exercise classes across different SBUHB sites.
  • To support a qualified Physiotherapist with walking aid and mobility assessments and provision of suitable aids.
  • To undertake agreed treatment programmes with individual clients/patients following assessment by a physiotherapist.
  • To maintain clinical records and report accurately to others
  • To undertake aspects of assessment and delivery of exercise groups within agreed parameters, following assessment by the physiotherapist.
  • Assist qualified clinicians with any Lifestyle programme interventions delivered in mostly out-patient setting, but also some in patient or community settings.
  • To show basic IT understanding and support patients with completion of electronic outcomes within clinics.
  • To carry out all administrative duties, in relation to departmental needs and maintenance of records (paper and electronic) and statistical information.
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures to ensure smooth running of the service and to communicate any problems or discrepancies to the line manager immediately.
  • Undertake any other duties as requested by the Supervising Physiotherapist/Head of Service.
