Job overview

The clinical laboratory team provides a High Quality Specialist Diagnostic Service to improve the Health Care of the people of South of Tyne and Wear. An opportunity has arisen for a Cellular Pathology Trainee Biomedical Scientist/Specialist Biomedical Scientist position. The post holder will be based within the Cellular Pathology Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead

The post holder will have a developed knowledge and experience in Cellular Pathology .

Main duties of the job

 It is a primary role of the post to provide accurate diagnostic results to service users,  advice to clinical users of the service whilst working as a team to achieve RCPath expected turnaround times.  The post holder will be expected to further develop knowledge and skills of the  diagnostic techniques of the Cellular Pathology department.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Biomedical Sciences, Professional Registration, Specialist Portfolio.
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Diploma, Working towards MSc or equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 Years post graduate specialist training.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience of modern laboratory techniques and good knowledge of current professional issues.
  • Current Specialist BMS experience within a clinical laboratory or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of highly specialised techniques

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate complex information to clinicians, staff and others.
  • Ability to supervise and train others
  • Able to use equipment and resources appropriately and cost effectively.
  • Hand eye co-ordination and accuracy for processing material on slides, fine adjustments to specialist equipment.
Desirable criteria
  • Comprehension of the significance of clinical governance, clinical audit and achieving quality targets.
