Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Accountant to join our busy and dynamic Financial Management team at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work within the Financial Management team for the Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management subsidiary. The post holder will work with the Business Unit Accountants to deliver financial support and understanding to the service managers and leads within the Business Unit.
Summary of key elements for the role;
- Skilled in the use of spreadsheets, databases and word processing
- Good communication skills are essential both orally and in writing, with experience covering a broad range of management and non-finance staff
- Good analytical skills and numeracy are essential
- Analysis of complex financial queries and information requests
- Analysing multi-stranded reasons for expenditure varying from budget
- Resolving queries concerning financial reports from budget holders including identification of errors and rectifying problems with data from feeder systems
- Planning and organisation of ongoing complex tasks is required around strict weekly, monthly and annual financial deadlines to meet financial reporting requirements
The role is based at Northumbria House located on Cobalt Business Park with hybrid working arrangements in place and the working hours are Monday to Friday. The Trust would also support anyone wishing to study towards professional qualification including financial support and study leave.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To support the Chief Finance Officer / BU Accountant in providing a high quality financial management accounting service to the facilities management company.
- To undertake specific projects as defined by the Chief Finance Officer / BU Accountant.
- To input data to and manipulate data within the computerised accounting system. To produce monthly financial management budget reports for managers within strict financial timescales, together with supporting information, and analyse and report on reasons for expenditure varying from budget.
- To analyse complex financial queries including the preparation of reports of income & expenditure.
- To investigate queries and provide advice and training to managers as required by the Chief Finance Officer and BU Accountant.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Minimum of four GCSEs including Mathematics & English Language or equivalent
- Intermediate level (part-qualified) Association of Accounting Technicians qualification or equivalent experience
- • Studying towards ECDL accreditation or equivalent experience

- • Previous experience in a finance background
- • Knowledge of finance computer systems and NHS financial regime
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of Oracle Financials computer system

- • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role.
