Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a B4 Assistant Psychologist to join  the Older Adult Behaviour Support Service. The Behaviour Support Service are a specialist service working into care and nursing homes. The team has was established in 2007 and over the years have continued to develop to provide excellent delivery of care. The role of the Assistant Psychologist will be to support research and clinical development as well as carry small clinical caseload. The role will be divided into two parts. 3 days clinical work in Behaviour Support Service and 2 days Behaviour Support Service, service development.

Sharing outcomes of research and networking 

Writing up outcomes of research 

Working with other agencies, eg. social services, families, Community Mental Health Teams

Devising formulations and writing up interventions using the Newcastle Model 

Working cohesively with other staff members in Behaviour Support Service

The Behaviour Support Service is a specialist service working with Older Aged adults in care and nursing homes. The team consists of Band 7, Team Lead, 4 Band 6 clinicians and input from consultant psychiatrist. 

The team work closely with out Community Mental Health Team, often carrying out joint working. 

The team have regular Service Development Days to enable them to come together to review the service and look at future developments to support the team being up to date in practice and relevant in how it works

The team work Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. 

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Part of the role will be to work with colleagues in Behaviour Support Service to support research projects and collate information with a view to developing the service further. Where appropriate you may be required to write articles for publication or share service developments at networking events or development days/venues. The role will be to support the delivery of a strategy of audit, evaluation, and/or research to help develop the Behaviour Support Service, supporting improvement in practice and the way we work with clients, families, and carers. The research element of this role will be supported with supervision from psychology. 

The other area of work will be to hold a small clinical caseload. Supporting care home staff using the Newcastle Model. Providing training and facilitating information sharing sessions, with care home staff. Following the session provide the care home with written formulation and interventions. This will include liaising with care home staff, family members if appropriate as well as reviewing care home documentation, charts etc to ascertain an insight into the concerns encountered by care home staff.  You may be required to liaise with other agencies such as GP’s, social workers, Community Mental Health Teams etc. Clinical supervision will be provided by staff in Behaviour Support Service.
