We have an exciting opportunity for a Blood Sciences Service Manager to join our Blood Sciences department at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. 

Working alongside the Clinical Pathology Lead our Blood Sciences Service Manager will manage and advise on the strategy for blood sciences services, using expert judgment and knowledge ensuring the effective use of resources in delivering a high-quality clinical service to patients and clinicians across Trusts sites and GP services.

The Service Manager role demands excellent leadership skills to develop the workforce, ensuring that they can contribute effectively to the achievement of the strategic aims and objectives of the Trust and to work with external organisations to develop collaborative arrangements to secure business sustainability.

Main duties of the job:

Professional, operational, scientific, organisational, administrative and educational matters relevant to the services offered by the laboratory and to support the wider strategic direction of the Trusts.

Manage and review the utilisation of all resources and expenditure against planned performance/activity, ensuring that services are provided within available funds.

Provide regular and accurate information concerning the performance of the Blood Sciences service through senior leadership to the Pathology Board.

Participate in dialogue and co-operation with commissioners, other stakeholders, and providers of healthcare.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. The post holder will take the management lead in all clinical work-related issues and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Blood Sciences department. Blood Sciences is made up of Biochemistry & Immunology and Haematology & Blood Transfusion laboratories.

The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance and development of a high-quality service and will be supported to display personal initiative in all areas. They will lead a team of Senior staff to deliver a fit-for-purpose medical laboratory service to achieve the objectives of efficient patient care and resource management within the hospital,

  • HCPC Registration
  • Portfolio of Leadership/Management training to post graduate master’s level standard or equivalent experience
