Job overview

Opportunity for nurse practitioners with minor injury/illness and major illness skills to work with a team including General Practitioners, nurse practitioners, staff nurses and healthcare assistants in our Urgent Treatment Centre at North Tyneside General Hospital including support of the new streaming service at the Northumbria Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington.

We are looking for an autonomous practitioner who is happy to work independently treating a varied group of patients.  We promote a culture of inclusive leadership and are keen to continually develop our staff.

Please note: this role may require assessment centre or psychometric tests.

Main duties of the job

  • To apply advanced knowledge and skills during the management and provision of patient care, working within defined parameters. Lead specialist in Urgent Care.
  • To support the Department Manager in her accountability of the department, members of staff, pay and non pay budget.
  • To independently triage, assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in partnership with the patient and the multidisciplinary team.
  • To discharge patients or refer to appropriate department.
  • To promote health with all patients and carers
  • To take responsibility on a regular basis for the organisation and co-ordination of nursing services in the department in the absence of senior nurses.
  • To deliver governance standards in line with the ‘Essence of Care Standards’ and the Trust’s Governance framework.
  • Ensuring the delivery of ‘Compassion in Practice’ – Nursing.
  • Midwifery and Care Staff Vision and Strategy, incorporating the 6C’s
  • To work within Trust Patient Group Directions.
  • To practice with in Emergency Nurse Practitioner Policies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assume responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the implementation of evidence based programmes of care after examination, investigation and diagnoses, providing accurate treatment.
  • To supervise, support and educate junior members of nursing and medical staff.
  • To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
  • To work within the Emergency Care Centres for Northumbria Healthcare Trust.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse/ HCPC Registered/ AHP
  • Registered Mentor / ENB 998 or PP126/ 127
  • Teaching certificate 998/997 PP 122/123 or 7307 with teaching experience or equivalent
  • Diploma
  • ENB 199 or University equivalents
  • Emergency Nurse Practitioner Course or equivalent experience
  • ENB 199 or University equivalents
  • IRMER Course (to be completed within first six weeks of appointment if not already achieved
