Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join the well-established Northumbria Colorectal Nursing Team as arisen. The full time post holder will be part of a dynamic team playing a pivotal role in leading and delivering the colorectal nursing service and will be a key member of the team in delivering high quality patient care.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to practice autonomously and demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in relation to the care of colorectal patients. The post holder will run nurse led clinics, break bad news and co-ordinate and facilitate effective health care delivery. Leadership, innovation, motivation and excellent communication skills are essential as is the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

The ability to be flexible and organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential. We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individual with the ability to work in a potentially demanding and diverse workflow and to work on his/her own initiative, as a member of a growing team. There is the potential opportunity in the future to develop and expand the role to train to undertake endoscopy training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate would be working as part of the wider colorectal multi-disciplinary team within the Surgical and Cancer directorate working across all sites with Northumberland and North Tyneside. The primary role of the colorectal nurse specialist includes providing information, advice and support for colorectal cancer patients, and those close to them, at all stages of their disease, including pre and post any surgical intervention, which may include stoma formation, and during oncology treatment. 

A car driver is essential. 

The base for this post will be NTGH but the post holder will work across all hospital sites within the trust.

The working hours are Monday to Friday. The post requires the ability to work till 6pm on some days.

  • PP126/127 / D32/33 or equivalent
  • Degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training and experience or equivalent.
