This is an exciting opportunity to lead the provision of ambulances across the North East of England.  The successful postholder will thrive in a high pressure environment, making strategic decisions on fleet availability and offering guidance to keep the fleet on the road.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the NEASUS Management Team, the post holder will be accountable for the comprehensive management and administration of the fleet, overseeing the full vehicle lifecycle. This includes ensuring the correct recording of new vehicles in the fleet management system, scheduling maintenance, and managing the disposal process at the end of the vehicles' operational life.

Additionally, the role will involve supervising the Logistics Team Leader and supporting workload coordination to ensure that the core fleet—comprising fully operational divisional, A&E, Rapid Response, AP, Event Cover, and PTS vehicles—is strategically positioned and available for duty at all times.

  • Fleet Fitting & Equipment - Vehicles equipped according to regulatory and clinical best practice to perform a specific care response.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work Experience / Achievements

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working in a fleet environment. Experience in managing within a planned budget limit. Have experience in a management / supervisory role.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing specialist vehicles, including blue light vehicles and equipment. Vehicle technician qualification. Project management qualification. Setting up new contracts/ business. Have a good understanding of the safety issues relating to the vehicles including Health and Safety legislation, Handling and Moving regulations, COSHH regulations.

Knowledge / Educational Achievements

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 or higher in a related discipline. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and regulatory compliance standards
Desirable criteria
  • Degree qualification in a related subject. Knowledge of how the ambulance service delivers its services to patients and the role of the fleet service within the Ambulance Service. Specialist knowledge of fleet products and associated ambulance equipment. An understanding of Standing Financial Instructions and Ambulance operational Procedures.

Skills and Behaviors

Essential criteria
  • Competent in use of IT systems (including MS Office Packages and a Customer Relationship Management system). Demonstrate continuous professional development. An ability to make decisions and work under pressure.
