Job overview

These are exciting times for Occupational Therapists wanting to make a difference to people’s everyday lives. Community Mental Health Services are in the process of improvement and transformation and OT is at the heart of these changes. We recognize the value of meaningful roles and activity to improve mental health outcomes and create brighter futures. In the CTT, we strive for quality and use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to guide our evidence -based practice and inform our holistic assessments, 1:1 and group interventions (Recovery Through Activity).

We work alongside a variety of people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and try our best to understand how a person’s motivation, routine, skills, and environment can impact on their activity levels. We strive to work collaboratively to support people in overcoming any barriers to engagement in meaningful activity by working on individual formulations, care plans and goals to enable personal recovery.  We also aim to work with a variety of services to ensure the best possible outcomes for people; third sector,  Recovery Colleges, voluntary services, primary care, drug & alcohol services.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the OT process and pathway.
  • Use a variety of Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) assessments; Occupational Circumstances Interview & Rating Scale (OCAIRs), MOHOST screening tool, Occupational Self Assessment (OSA), functional assessments etc.
  • Occupational Therapy formulations, collaborative goal setting and care planning.
  • Deliver & evaluate 1:1 OT intervention.
  • Plan, facilitate, review group interventions such as Recovery Through Activity or Anxiety Management group.
  • Use MOHO to measure outcomes and be familiar with other quality of life outcome measures such as Dialog + and ReQOL.
  • Advocate for and represent Occupational Therapy within the wider team.
  • Be responsible for the education of Occupational Therapy students and Occupational Therapy apprentices.
  • Facilitate supervision and the development of other colleagues such as support workers and Band 5 OTs.

Working for our organisation

We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.

The CTTs are busy, interesting, and challenging places to work. We hold complex caseloads and our role is valued within a multi disciplinary team framework. We maintain an occupational focus in the team and contribute our unique perspective throughout a person’s CTT journey. We contribute to the screening and triage process, formulations, and wider complex case discussions.

We are looking for confident, motivated, kind people with excellent risk assessment and problem-solving skills, great communication and decision-making skills. People who want to develop their OT practice, advocate for OT and to keep learning and developing so that we can improve our Recovery outcomes.

We are a lovely OT team with some amazing supportive and dedicated staff. We have many opportunities for personal and professional development, clinical and peer supervision, OT Best Practice Forums, and CPD opportunities.  This role would suit someone who wants to develop from a Band 5 to Band 6 or a current Band 6 who wants more experience in mental health or community.
