Job overview

Are you a nurse with skills and experience in forensic mental health care? Are you looking for a new challenge? We have the opportunity for a nurse with forensic mental health experience to join our newly developed Forensic Community Mental Health Team. 

Our team is a multi-disciplinary service consisting of OT, Nursing, Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Worker, Voluntary sector, support worker, peer worker as well as dual diagnosis specialists around substance misuse and a social care funded autism post that will support the team. The team supports individuals with a history of being in prison or secure services and providing support to prevent those at risk of prison or secure services due to their mental health.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic individuals who can work confidently on their own as well as being a team player.  Good communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as knowledge of mental illness, forensic skills and the challenges this brings in daily life. You also need to be a driver with access to a car that can be used for business purposes.  We also are looking for people who can demonstrate the Trust’s vision and values in practice and are motivated to be involved in innovation and service development.
The role has the expectation of managing and / or supervising junior staff and providing leadership for the team, your leadership skills will also be assessed in interview.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with clinical leads, managers and colleagues to develop the service and manage a caseload of people as well as provide advice and support for other services. You will also joint work with individuals supported by other services to provide support around risk management.  You will help develop treatment pathways, processes and structures as well as building effective multiagency links to ensure that we meet the diverse needs of the people we see.

You will provide assessment and interventions to individuals as well as complete outcome measures to show progress made and identify areas of needs.  You will ensure that the needs of the people you see are met and that will involve drawing in other staff in support of this.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Current unrestricted registration with NMC
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree/ diploma
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience in a Community Mental health care setting
  • Developed specialist knowledge gained within a similar environment over a considerable period of time
  • Experience of research based/reflective practice, e.g. understanding and ability to use supervision to reflect on skills, attitude and knowledge and develop these by using evidence based practice

Other

Essential criteria
  • Must have full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle for business use
