An exciting opportunity has arisen for Apprenticeship Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners via apprenticeship route to join the NHS Talking Therapies Service (IAPT) delivered jointly by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust (CWPT) and Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.  The successful candidates will be joining a well-established service that continues to offer high quality; evidence based psychological interventions for our identified populations. The posts are for the Coventry, Rugby, North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire.

The PWP apprenticeship programme is a 12-month course, delivered by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust Apprenticeship scheme. The programme combines clinical competency development with academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and Staffordshire University. Successful applicants will need to commit to the academic and competency development requirements of the course.

You will need to have successfully completed a Level 3 qualification and Maths and English GCSE grade C or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 prior to application.

Main duties of the job

As an apprentice PWP, you will be a full time Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust or Coventry & Warwickshire Mind employee based within the NHS Talking Therapies service, whilst attending the PWP apprenticeship programme. During the apprenticeship programme, one day per week is protected learning time - taken up as classroom learning, or online learning, research, shadowing, project work, self- learning or University directed study. The remaining four days will be spent on-the-job training within the NHS Talking Therapies (IAPT).

On successful completion of the programme, apprentices will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner within a Talking Therapies service and will progress from a Band 4 Apprentice PWP contract to a permanent Band 5 Qualified PWP contract. As the Trust is funding your training, you are expected to work as a Qualified PWP for the service for at least 2 years.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 This post holder will:

  • Work within CWPT NHS Talking Therapies Service (IAPT) Service.
  • Provide a range of high-volume low intensity Step 2 cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
  • See patients and deliver low intensity interventions in different locations around the county, mainly by telephone and video.
  • Deliver IAPT Step 2 psycho-educational courses.
  • Undertake GP liaison, data entry and follow up work
  • Deliver IAPT Step 2 psycho-educational course

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Clinical

  • Offer telephone assessments to patients with anxiety and/or depression, both with and without long term physical health conditions.
  • Undertake patient-centred telephone assessments using TT standardised measures and LTC additional measures (if appropriate) and identify the areas where the person wishes to see change or recovery. Make assessment of risk to self and others and after discussion with a supervisor refer patients back to GPs or Adult Mental Health Team’s if they are deemed to be at risk.
  • Offer a range of choice about treatment options available based on the least burden of intervention appropriate to need and provide a range of short-term evidence based low -intensity psychological treatment interventions in accordance with NICE Guidance. This may include information on guided self- help, computerised CBT, medication support, access to group CBT and signposting to employment, training and benefits and stepping up to Step 3 and specialist services. This work is primarily by telephone with some face-to-face contact.
  • Adhere to agreed recovery targets and activity scheduling relating to the number of client contact interventions and clinical sessions during treatment in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
  • Discharge patients following successful completion of treatment or refer on for higher intensity treatment if required.
  • Refer on to other services as appropriate.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection and recording clinical activity in line with protocols.
  • Work closely with line managers and supervisors, ensuring appropriate ‘stepping-up’ and ‘stepping-down’ arrangements and discharged processes are in place in line with the ‘stepped care approach’.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.
  • Support the delivery of Step 2 courses.

    Training

  •  Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post in line with identified professional objectives.
  • Apply learning from the training programme in practice.
  • Receive supervision from educational providers in relation to course work to meet the required standards.
  • Undertake Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner induction training and other training as necessary.
  • Apprentices will be required to undertake and pass the Talking Therapies PWP apprenticeship programme delivered by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust Apprenticeship Scheme Learning and Development Centre.
  • All modules are assessed on a practical demonstration of competencies according to fail/pass criteria. All apprentices will be required to pass the modules undertaken and be working towards achieving the Certificate in   Psychological Wellbeing Practice in order to be confirmed in post.
  • Keep up to date mandatory training as required by CWPT.

Professional

  • Work in partnership with GPs and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate referrals are received.
  • Raise the profile of the service.
  • Be aware of information on community resources in identified localities to inform signposting activity including CWPT Talking Therapies website,  liaising with professionals from the team supporting long term health conditions.
  • Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times, in line with Trust policy.
  • Be aware of, and keep up to date with, advances in the treatment for common mental health problems.
  • Ensure clear objectives and activity levels are identified, discussed, and reviewed with the PWP Clinical Supervisor on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.
  • Attend clinical skills and management supervision on a regular basis as agreed with the PWP Clinical Supervisor and attend the Clinical Skills Group.
  • Attend relevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professional objectives.
  • Participate in individual annual appraisal review and respond to agreed service objectives.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating bodies.
  • Keep up to date all records in relation to Continuous Professional Development and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

General

  • To contribute to the development of best practice within the service.
  • To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence). in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services.
  • To further gain experience working in health care services with patients with physical health problems.
  • Work within CWPT policies and procedures and adhere to BABCP/BPS Codes of Practice as applicable.
