Job overview

The role is for a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP). This is  development position, providing the opportunity to develop skills and experience to progress to a Breast surgery ACP.  You will be expected to undertake and complete the Breast examination and client communication course within the first 12 months. The post-holder will be primarily based at University Hospital Coventry (UHCW) but will also be required to work across multiple UHCW contracted sites such as St Cross Hospital Rugby.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a high profile, accessible and responsive leader, with managerial and clinical responsibility for the delivery of Advanced Clinical Practice/ breast surgery. The successful candidate should be able to make informed decisions dependent upon competence, experience and qualification within their own speciality and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met. Working as part of the breast surgical team, the post holder will practice autonomously in breast surgery, to provide initial assessment and ongoing care for elective and non-elective patients, whilst being accountable and self-directed in line with the relevant code of professional conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • On completion of the ‘Breast examination and client communication’ course you will be expected to autonomously carry out physical breast examination to aid in our Two Week Wait GP referral clinics and Follow-up clinics.
  • You will be expected to triage and see ward referrals and assess accordingly, requesting imaging/investigations/prescribing medication.
  • Following training you will have the ability to request appropriate breast imaging within the clinical operating procedure.
  • The role will involve giving patient’s benign biopsy and imaging results, as face to face or telephone results.
  •  To be part of our ACP-led post-operative reconstruction clinic, involving simple and complex wound management and dressings, as well as infiltration of tissue expanders.
  • To be part of our ACP-led pain clinic, involving clinical examination and working closely with our physiotherapy team
  •  When competent undertake clinical core biopsies and punch biopsies as required.
  •  Attend and contribute to Multidisciplinary team meetings, including presenting patients.
  •  Complete VTE’s and discharge letters for breast surgery patients.
  • Following a consent course, you will be expected to consent patients for genetic/research studies.
  • This is a developing role and additional responsibilities may be added to meet patient needs
