Job overview

An exciting opportunity has opened for an ambitious, dynamic and enthusiastic AHCS registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist to join the cardiovascular rehabilitation team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with evidence of working at a senior clinical exercise physiologist level to join our dynamic and high performing multi-disciplinary cardiovascular rehabilitation service.

At University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, the cardiovascular rehabilitation service is delivered across two outpatient sites - Centre for exercise and health, Coventry and St Cross Hospital, Rugby.

We are in the fortunate position to have excellent facilities across both sites (bespoke rehabilitation gyms, clinical rooms). This multi-site service offers cardiovascular rehabilitation to the following groups of patients - STEMI, NSTEMI, Revasc, HFrEF, HFpEF and PAD across the patient recovery pathway.

Main duties of the job

This post requires a skilled and motivated clinician with a breadth of experience in patient assessment and exercise prescription across a range of chronic conditions.

The successful candidate will be joining an existing multi-disciplinary team (specialist nurses, clinical exercise physiologists, exercise specialists, dietitians, pharmacist, NHS Talking Therapies and admin staff).

The successful candidate will provide robust clinical leadership, supervision, mentorship and career development to the existing team of clinical exercise physiologists (Band 4, band 5 and Band 6’s). This will be achieved through excellent communication skills, influencing, motivating and inspiring others to deliver high quality care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Within a multi-disciplinary team, you will draw on highly specialist knowledge to manage a comprehensive cardiovascular rehabilitation programme, to include:

● Manage and conduct functional capacity tests to establish physical capabilities and develop tailored programmes of exercise suitable to the service users’ needs and limitations 
● Manage and conduct complex clinical assessments and risk stratification
● Have the ability to travel across sites to deliver cardiovascular rehabilitation (Centre for Exercise & Health Coventry & Hospital of St Cross, Rugby
● Oversee educational talks, such as exercise, goal setting and nutrition
● Manage the delivery of exercise-based cardiovascular rehabilitation sessions
● Implement cardiac services in-line with service policies and procedures 
● Manage service user caseload with complex conditions
● Monitor and progress complex service users undergoing cardiovascular rehabilitation evaluating their condition and adapting their programme as necessary within department standards and protocols seeking senior assistance as required
● Ensure all records associated with cardiovascular rehabilitation are maintained in accordance with the Code of Conduct and Caldicott principles
● Organise and allocate the supervision of students attending for work or clinical experience
● Supervise staff members and conduct appraisals.
