Job overview

 We are looking to recruit an Activity Coordinator to join our Care of the Elderly team - Ward 20a  Medicine, at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. The Activity Coordinator plays an important role in patient’s recovery by providing meaningful activities to promote appropriate levels of stimulation, promote well-being and encourage and maintain a patient’s current level of function and avoid de-conditioning whilst in hospital.

The successful candidates will need to be passionate about Care of the Elderly, enthusiastic, motivated and demonstrate our Trust values. They must be able to work as part of a team but also under their own initiative to provide and coordinate such activities.

Main duties of the job

  •  Responsible for own actions, ensuring all patient interactions/observations are communicated to trained staff.
  • Show dignity and respect in dealings with patients, staff and visitors.
  • Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to the appropriate trained staff as appropriate.
  • Organise own daily workload e.g identification of suitable patients to attend the day room and take part in activities.
  • Provide instruction (verbal and non-verbal) to patients on a range of activities as part of the activities programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. To develop a rapport with patients, to encourage and motivate them to participate in activity (either group or individual work).
  2. To contribute to the development and implementation of a creative and innovative activities programme responsive to the varying needs of the patient group
  3. To observe general behaviour, abilities and responses of patients and report them verbally to the multi-disciplinary team and within the patient record
  4. Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient dat
  5. Support staff and patients exposed to difficult situations arising in the clinical area e.g after receipt of bad news or following an unexpected event
  6. The post holder is required to work in support of qualified nurses and other professionals to provide optimum patient care, ensuring adherence to Trust policy at all times. 
  7. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of activity-based patient groups and to work on occasional individual work with patients. Supporting the multi-disciplinary team in providing a comprehensive programme of activity to meet the needs of the client group.
