We are seeking a dynamic individual to join a rapidly expanding group of clinicians and clinical academics in Endocrinology & Metabolism at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW). The principal focus of the department is upon excellent clinical education and research.
This opportunity has arisen to further expand our academic activity in Endocrinology & Metabolism. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join a rapidly expanding group of clinicians and clinical academics in the Warwickshire Institute for the Study of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (WISDEM), at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. The purpose of this post is to project manage research and education/training. You will be encouraged to apply for funding to support further research activities.
The post holder will support the Research & Education Strategy in the creation, planning, coordination, and completion of a portfolio of projects related to WISDEM. They will work with the Clinical Lead to ensure successful delivery of priorities and collaboration activities on time, to quality standards and in a cost-effective manner, adjusting plans and associated activities as required.

Main duties of the job
Project Management
· Within WISDEM, Lead and manage the successful implementation of projects, including coordination of staff, activities and resources to ensure the successful completion of projects, against agreed project plans to time and within constraints, using an appropriate project management framework (e.g. PM3), incorporating any review processes as necessary.
· Produce and maintain formal project documentation required throughout project lifecycles including the production of policies and procedures, detailed project plan(s) covering setting up and then managing the various work packages, identifying key milestones and resource and risk implications for consideration by appropriate boards and groups as appropriate.
· Manage project performance in respect of delivery of key project milestones/ deliverables, by establishing formal reporting arrangements on progress.
· Liaise closely with the relevant project and funding officers to provide progress and financial reports and forecasts, in compliance with reporting requirements.
· Determine and manage risks and issues, including managing project budgets, mitigating them as far as possible and escalating them as required.
· Lead the delivery of project plans, allocating tasks as appropriate, identifying risks, issues and dependencies, considering best practice and current options and ultimately making recommendations in the best interest of the project.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Planning and Organising
· Demonstrate the ability to manage own and others workload effectively.
· Ensure that workload is planned effectively to meet a number of complex deadlines.
· Effectively deal with unplanned events, which may impact on the smooth running of projects. Identify and implement action/plans on day-to-day issues or in agreement with the Clinical Lead for management issues.
· Play a leading role in project team meetings, Steering Committee and other governance and oversight committees, and participate in project procedure reviews and setting standards for project protocols.
Managing – People and Resources
· Take responsibility for the supervision and management of research administration and ensuring effective communication.
· Demonstrate the ability to support and supervise research staff effectively, dealing with unexpected issues, eg. Sickness.
· Delegate staff according to skill mix and work load.
Training and Teaching
· Take responsibility for own continuing professional development and maintain own portfolio in line with KSF.
· Recognise gaps in practice knowledge in self and others.
· Supervise and train new and junior staff in the performance of their duties to ensure that project protocol and Research Governance is observed.
Research and development
· Produce summary reports and material for WISDEM departmental meetings or funding bodies as required.
· Responsible for the on-going development and quality of research systems e.g. databases.
· Provide project management expertise in the organisation and monitoring of the project and other internal/external studies as appropriate.
· Co-ordinate the production of research management protocols for individual projects in liaison with Clinical Lead and research personnel.
· Ability to think and react appropriately to adverse conditions e.g. high stress levels.
· Manual handling tasks e.g. carrying notes or moving research equipment.
