UHCW NHS Trust is looking for a Stroke Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the acute stroke services based at Coventry Hospital.  The post holder will have joint responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Stroke team, working alongside the stroke therapy leadership team (See attachment for Stroke Team Structure).

The post holder will work clinically within the busy acute Stroke wards, providing highly specialist advice, assessments and treatments to a wide variety of patients.  There are opportunities to further strengthen the growing partnership between UHCW and CWPT services, along the Stroke Pathway.

You will manage a team of Band 6 and Band 5 Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, both rotational and static, as well as Therapy Technicians. There is a very close working relationship across the many teams within both the hospital and the community. Successful applicants will need to provide evidence of team leadership skills and MDT working.

Main duties of the job

• Provide a highly specialist, high standard therapy service, assessing and advising on patients care & treatment, as an autonomous practitioner within the defined patient group.
• Lead the Therapy staff across the service area providing clinical supervision and training, liaising with other appropriate Therapy leads to ensure an integrated service is provided for the service area
• Ensure development of junior staff through supervision, training and annual appraisal.
• Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical practice & service development within area.
• Contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy service. Take a lead for information management to ensure high quality data which is recorded, evaluated & reported in a timely manner.
• Provide a source of expert clinical opinion on stroke for other health professionals, both internal and external to the Trust.
• To participate in 7-day working patterns, including Bank Holidays.
