An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time (9PA) Consultant to join as a General Paediatric Medicine Consultant, with job planned time to succeed into the Safeguarding Lead role. 

The successful candidate will join the team of 15 paediatric consultants and will contribute to the delivery and organisation of the paediatric service. University Hospital Coventry has one of the largest paediatric units in the West Midlands. Our paediatric team provide general paediatric care to a child population of 65,000 within Coventry and work in partnership with local Trusts to provide paediatric and some subspecialist care to children from Warwickshire and neighbouring counties.

Main duties of the job

Key elements of the post include:

  • Expertise in general paediatrics, acute and out-patient based.
  • Supporting current named doctors for Child Protection with a view to taking on this role as part of succession planning. 
  • Ability to deliver a consultant of the week service on the children's inpatient unit and Children's Emergency Department, twice a year. 
  • To participate in the general paediatric acute on call 1 in 6 weekends and 1 in 12 weekdays. 
  • General paediatric clinics and ward rounds. 
  • Clinical and educational supervision of paediatric trainees.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to participate in the delivery of medical education and audit within the department. 

This appointment is a part-time 9 PA post and the job plan in the job description is provisional.
