Main duties of the job

Your meticulous calculations and reconciliations are pivotal in maintaining financial integrity. You’ll liaise with Finance to address anomalies, run and check reports, and implement updates in line with local and national regulations.
Your role will also involve supporting payroll team leaders, managers, and staff with your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, providing reassurance and solutions in challenging situations. You’ll play a key part in training and mentoring junior staff and conducting performance reviews.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• To be fully conversant with the ESR system used for processing the payroll, storing and retrieving data. To have full knowledge of all terms and conditions of service e.g. Agenda for Change (AFC), Trust policies, local agreements and statutory legislation and relate them to the Payroll environment.
• Responsibility for the Managing/prioritising, preparation, input and checking of an allocated section of both Monthly and Weekly payrolls within agreed deadlines to ensure staff are paid accurately and on time. This will include the provision and receipt of sensitive and contentious information.
• Responsible for resolving pay queries with individual members of staff and managers with minimal supervision. This includes sensitively handling difficult phone calls and, on occasion, dealing with these calls on behalf of junior members of the team.
• To undertake basic/complicated pay calculations ensuring that appropriate AFC and M&D T&Cs are applied in line with National HMRC and pension regulations.
• To be able to calculate and apply overpayments within ESR, and calculate, raise and recover advances of pay where necessary along with completing the necessary documentation to notify the member of staff.
