Are you an outstanding HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist looking for a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy regional Renal Centre?

This is a well-established and highly regarded role within Renal Services at UHCW and we are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and compassionate person to join a multidisciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated renal staff who provide high quality care to patients with a CKD diagnosis or under renal replacement therapies.

The team serves a busy acute hospital  and neighbouring trusts, with a wide range of nurses, medics and allied professional supporting renal patients and their families and carers. You will be based at University Hospital in Coventry and will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of renal conditions and cutting edge treatments, working with inpatients and outpatients. 

It's a fantastic opportunity to utilise and further develop your full range of psychological skills and knowledge within a physical health setting. This includes supporting psychological aspects of diagnosis; adjustment and engagement to long-term treatments such as dialysis, donor and recipient assessments for transplantation and end-of-life care. You will also have the opportunity to working systemically with families and the wider renal team and develop your skills in supervision and service development. 

Please note this post will require onsite working with only adhoc opportunity for remote working.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide highly specialist psychological assessments and intervention of adults with renal failure. The post holder will be expected to have advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in order to deliver highly specialist psychological assessments of patients, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological and physical health information collected from a variety of sources including psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and others involved in the care. 

2. To formulate, make decisions and implement highly specialist plans for the psychological treatment and/or management of a patient’s mental health/physical health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the patient’s difficulties, and employing evidence-based, effective interventions.

3. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals and agencies outside the Trust when necessary, contributing directly to the patients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan. 

4. To ensure that all members of the multidisciplinary team to have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding the issues for the patients under our care, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. The post holder will implement policy and service changes, will consider and comment on policies and proposals, and may propose policy and service changes.

2. To participate in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing. 

3. To participate, as appropriate, in staff recruitment, both in short-listing process and as a member of interview panels for the team. 

4. To contribute to the systematic governance of psychological practice within the specialty/team, including clinical record keeping standards and the transcribing of minutes and records of appropriate meetings. 

5. To be a member of the trusts psychological services and to participate fully in the service meeting, supervision groups and appropriate committees, working groups etc. 

6. To maintain and ensure psychological staff maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific patient group and health services generally. 

You will be working alongside the Clinical Lead and be part of the wider Psychological Services Team at UHCW with excellent support provided for your development. We also have excellent administrative support for the team.
