Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be appointed on the new consultant contract which will consist of up to 10 Programmed Activities (PA’s). This will consist of up to 8.35 PA’s for direct clinical care and 2.5 PA’s for supporting professional activities to enable the post holder to comply with the requirements for revalidation and CPD with further SPA activity negotiable pending taking on roles within the department after the initial six months in post. The DCC commitment will consist of clinical sessions as outlined above. The trauma on-call commitment is 0.75 PA per week and carries a supplement of 5% for on-call. Where duties require travel between two sites, travel expenses will be reimbursed. There will be time built into the job plan where travel between sites is required, however it is expected this will be minimised wherever possible.
For those consultants wishing to undertake private practice; the Trust does not require them to do an extra Programmed Activity but will require it to be declared as part of the annual job planning process.
The Trust has the required arrangements in place to ensure that all surgeons have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports surgeons going through the revalidation process.
