Job overview

The Practice Development Team at UHCW has an exciting and varied scope including supporting the Trust’s successful Pathway to Excellence journey, the Internationally Educated  Nurse OSCE programme, our well-established gold standard Preceptorship programme, the Professional Nurse Advocate role, the training and development of Health Care Support Workers, and supporting the continuing professional development of our current nursing, midwifery and AHP workforce. To continue to support these workstreams,  we are seeking to recruit a full time Band 7 Practice Facilitator.

Practice Development are an established team with a robust support infrastructure, managed by a senior nursing team under the direction of the Practice Development Lead and Associate Director of Nursing for Education and Research. 


The post holder will facilitate the training and development of nursing/midwifery and AHP staff and the implementation of evidence based practice by supporting staff in clinical practice thus contributing to the continual development of quality services provided to patients and others who come into contact with the Trust. They will be clinically based, placing the clinical environment at the heart of learning and will participate in specific projects related to nursing practice. 

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Practice Development Lead, the post holder will have responsibility to support new and ongoing projects and the Practice Development Team’s portfolio Trust wide which includes:

· The Internationally Educated Nurses OSCE Training Programme including the continuing support and development of the newly registered IEN’s in practice.

· The UHCW Nurse Preceptorship Programme including the continuing support and development of newly registered nurses and nursing associates in practice.

· The Registered Nurse Development Programme - a year long programme aimed at further developing leadership skills in registered nurses post-preceptorship.

· Continuing Professional Development including IV Medicine Administration, Conscious Sedation, Venepuncture and Cannulation, The Acute Illness Management (AIM) Course, and Delegated Consent training.

· The Professional Nurse Advocate Programme.

· Facilitation of Shared Decision Making Councils.

· The implementation of evidence based practice by supporting staff in clinical practice.

· Contributing towards the continual development of quality services provided to patients and others who come into contact with the Trust.

· Being involved in the development and promotion of the governance elements of practice including contributing to the writing and review of nursing related Clinical Procedures, Guidelines and Competencies

· Working collaboratively with key stakeholders across the trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Facilitate the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and audit of nursing/midwifery policies, protocols, guidelines and standards ensuring that they meet current practice and professional regulations
2. Act as a resource for staff to access and raise awareness of national and local policies that will impact upon them and affect the delivery of patient care.
3. Ensure that quality standards are set and monitored and that clinical risk management and clinical audit are an integral part of practice developments.
4. Facilitate the implementation of national and local quality initiatives to improve service delivery
5. Establish effective communication and good working relationships with multi-professional colleagues within the Trust to support effective service delivery.
