Job overview

 

  1. Provide a highly specialist, high standard Speech and Language Therapy service, assessing and advising on patients care & treatment, as an autonomous practitioner working with patients with dysphagia and communication difficulty.
  2. Provide clinical supervision and acting as a resource to advise Speech and Language Therapy staff working with dysphagia and communication, ensuring that an integrated & successful therapy service is provided.
  3. Work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programmes, taking on the role of care co-ordinator where appropriate.
  4. Take a lead on the planning, development, co-ordination & evaluation within the Speech and Language Therapy service.
  5. Provide support and cover across the whole SLT service within your competencies.
  6. Cordinate the service provided across Rugby St Cross and UHCW wards.

 

Main duties of the job

1)    Clinical

1.    Maintain a clean safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness hygiene & infection control at all times.

2.    Be professionally & legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. Ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management and to support more junior staff to do likewise.

3.    Interpret & analyse clinical & non clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis & prognosis on wide range of highly complex conditions in order to recommend the best course of intervention, evaluate outcomes, reassess & to develop comprehensive discharge plans.

4.    Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients with dysphagia and communication difficulties including those with complex presentation. Investigate & analyse skills & formulate individualised management & treatment plans and specialised programmes of care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Organisational
 
1. Take the lead for information management within area of responsibility to ensure high quality up to date written and electronic (where available) records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards & produce in a timely manner.
 
2. Collate, interpret and analyse activity data and report on findings for service development & provide specialist reports on patient & service related issues as required.
 
3. Be involved in the planning, evaluation and audit of practice, clinical pathways and protocols using where appropriate national guidelines / legislation.
 
4. Be aware of and assist with managing resources and equipment necessary to meet service needs in clinical area reporting any faults
 
5. Work at the weekend & out of hours as appropriate & necessary within competencies, but not necessarily with your usual caseload.
 
6. Accept responsible delegated tasks within the overall management of the Speech and Language Therapy service.
