This post will offer you the opportunity to work across two prestigious hospitals in Coventry and Rugby which include a breadth of specialities including Stroke, Care of the Elderly, Orthopaedics, an Upper Limb Unit, Neurosciences, Medicine, Surgery, an Outpatient Rehabilitation Unit and Inpatient Rehabilitation.  

Main duties of the job

The role of Lead Vascular Clinical Nurse Specialist is high profile, dynamic, proactive and pioneering role. The lead nurse for vascular services will be able to make informed decisions and have managerial responsibility for nursing service delivery across vascular specialist nursing services. The roles focus will be to improve overall patient experience and patient outcomes, for patients with vascular conditions using services improvement and quality methodology and be responsive to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice.

The post holder will lead and manage the UHCW vascular specialist nursing team. They will engage directly with medical and nursing teams in the management of surgical vascular patients, providing leadership of the services, advice, collaboration and consultancy ensuring that patients gain appropriate and timely care and engage in partnership working with the multidisciplinary teams.

In addition, they will develop consistent approaches to the strategic management of the patient group, through training and education, policy and guideline development, audit and research and implementation of evidence-based care. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies always.
  2. Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service within a complex and challenging environment with often, conflicting priorities.
  3. Responsible for the provision of a high-quality professional nursing service across the vascular nursing service promoting best practice and implementing a review process that looks at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of patients and service.
  4. Contributes to development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines across several departments, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  5. Overall budget responsibility, as directed by the Director of Nursing for nursing resources across vascular CNS services monitoring variance and implementing contingency plans as  appropriate, e.g., bank, agency expenditure and sickness.
  6. Support the Divisional Director of Operations with the General Manager in ensuring service objectives are met. Support the Group Director of Nursing in developing nursing services, deputising as required.
  7. Responsible for the efficient management of processes within a defined area e.g., complaints; training and development; appraisal and activity. 
  8. Utilise information and IT systems to produce accurate and timely workforce and resource data and reports.
  9. Responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of projects to improve patient care and service development through the audit cycle, linking to the clinical governance framework and business planning process.
  10. Undertake direct workload requiring moderate to high physical effort according to patient dependency or staff need.
  11. Demonstrate through effective leadership the ability to provide professional and emotional support to individuals and groups, e.g., during difficult situations or unexpected events.
  12. Accountable for maintaining a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control always.
  13. Responsible for adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy and Divisional objectives designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from clinical and non-clinical risk and known hazards.
