Job overview
The role of the Public Health midwife for University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire Trust is to lead on the following key areas:
• Smoking during pregnancy
• Immunisations and Vaccinations
• Weight management before, during and after pregnancy
The successful applicant will have line management of the vaccination and in house tobacco cessation advisors and lead on national agendas for the roll out of the wider vaccination programmes and Saving babies lives care bundle.

Main duties of the job
Communicate effectively with clinical, operational, administration and corporate staff via email, telephone and face to face contact in order to deliver the requirements of the role.
The Public Health Midwife will have experience that will enable them to Work closely with public health stakeholders within Warwickshire and Coventry Local Maternity System to implement the maternity public health strategy.
The successful post holder will Support mothers/parents to be active participants in identifying their health needs and work in partnership with mothers/parents to improve both their health and the health of their unborn child.
They will lead on the public health strategies such as smoking and vaccinations and work closely with others to support public health priorities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• To assist in other wards/departments of the maternity services if the clinical situation or staffing levels demand.
• Continuing to perform clinical midwifery duties in order to maintain clinical skills.
• Participation in the maternity escalation on-call rota
• To maintain a professional attitude at all times developing the role of the midwife in the best interest of the women and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council and Code of Conduct.
• To act in such a manner as to uphold and enhance the good standards and reputation of midwifery.
• Be responsible for maintaining accurate and contemporaneous midwifery records, written and electronic in accordance with NMC Code of professional Practice.
• To be aware of extended personal and professional development. To attend courses and conferences as relevant according to the requirements of the role of an experienced midwife.
• Develop competencies in the use of equipment in the clinical area, attend teaching sessions as appropriate.
• To attend courses and conferences as relevant.
• To be conversant and comply with the Trust policies and regulations and attend compulsory lectures as instructed.
• To maintain good standards of care and assist in the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care.
• To be professionally accountable for own midwifery practice, acting in a professional manner at all times abiding by the NMC Code and all other relevant NMC and Trust practice protocols and guidelines.
• To be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of own professional knowledge and competence in keeping with the practice and CPD standard as laid down by the NMC to ensure continued professional registration.
