Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist/Psychological Therapist 

37.5 hours (part time hours can also be considered).

Come and join us at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust for a new opportunity working in collaboration with CWPT colleagues and our community sector provider of substance misuse services, Change Grow Live (CGL). We are looking for an experienced psychologist/psychological therapist to  support the development of this new service innovation, to enhance the provision of psychosocial interventions within the community, for individuals with difficulties associated with substance misuse.

Main duties of the job

You will scope and develop  psychological  one to one and group work interventions for individuals accessing CGL services.  You will also be involved in the ongoing scoping and development of supervision processes to support drug and alcohol key workers in the delivery of psychosocial approaches. You will support staff and promote psychological thinking via multidisciplinary meetings, case formulations and work with CGL managers to identify training needs . 

As this is a new service, there will be audit and evaluation process that you will have a significant role in delivering, working alongside service leaders and commissioners.

In addition to the  direct work with CGL, you will also supervise two  psychological therapists , who will also support CGL with development of their intervention offer, supervision , promotion of psychological thinking within MDT's and with case formulations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for someone with great communication skills, who is a real team player,  able to support and develop multi professional colleagues. Expertise in evidence based therapeutic psychological approaches and understanding of neuropsychological aspects of formulation for people with substance misuse is important in this role. You will have a passion for the client group, ensuring that people with co-occurring needs can access both substance misuse and mental health services. To this end you will have a role in influencing the way in which the dual diagnosis policy is implemented across services so that smooth pathways and transitions are developed for our community.

Essential criteria
  • Registration with the HCPC in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or if psychological therapist registered with equivalent governing professional organisation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience of working with people with complex mental health needs including substance misuse
  • Experience of working with a range of clients, presenting a range of clinical severity and maintenance of professionalism in challenging circumstances.
  • Experience of tailoring psychological assessment and intervention to individual needs eg age, culture, setting
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for work .

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Post-doctoral training relevant to the post Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialist assessment methods and therapeutic approaches in relation to the client group.
  • Skills in applying this knowledge. Well developed communication skills, suitable to the specialty.
  • Experience in providing consultancy to colleagues.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
