Learning Disability and Autism Directorate

Band 8a Lead Music Therapist

Based in the North Warwickshire Community Learning Disability Team, Nuneaton.  20.5 hours per week.

If so this role could be for you.  Due to the retirement of the existing post-holder we are looking to employ a very skilled and experienced Music Therapist to join our well established Psychological service already inputting into the CLDT. There is strong multi-disciplinary working within the service and the contribution of Music Therapy is highly valued. Successful applicants will receive excellent support and regular line management supervision as well as opportunities for continuing professional development. Clinical supervision is sourced externally and funded by the trust.  There are established links with Music therapy training providers and opportunity to offer MT training placements.

The Music Therapist will provide input to this Learning Disability service in the form of specialist music therapy assessments and interventions for individuals with complex needs, delivered individually and in group format.  As well as delivering specialist therapy, where appropriate, the role will involve sharing formulations with family members, paid care staff and the MDT to support the wider systems understanding.  The role will also involve clinical supervision of Music, Art and Drama Therapists working within the Trust, supporting the Continuing Professional Development of these staff.

This job will require some travel across the Trust so car owner/driver or suitable alternative transport arrangements will be needed to enable you to undertake the job. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS Check.

To undertake direct clinical work; offering specialist music therapy assessment and treatment to adults with a learning disability with additional complex needs.

To work with adults with the range of clinical presentations and complex mental health needs supported by CLDT services.   

To provide consultation and formulation delivered to the multi-disciplinary CLDT professionals and partner agencies.

To supervise the Music, Art and Drama Therapists working within the Trust, including ensuring and providing high quality clinical supervision for all staff, supporting the Continuing Professional Development of relevant qualified staff and provision of high-quality placements for Music Therapists in training or on apprenticeships. 

To work with other psychological professions leads to ensure effective patient pathways and flow across localities and services and oversee the monitoring of effective outcomes for Music Therapy interventions, in liaison with the Consultant  Psychologist and other Psychological Professions leads.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. To input into evidence-based practice and participate in audit and research and policy and service developments within the area served by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust. To contribute to Directorate and Trust wide professional leadership forums and processes.

Qualifications and registration

  • Completed recognised training in MusicTherapy at Masters’ level or equivalent
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as outlined by appropriate professional body.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of psychotherapeutic services, including highly developed knowledge and skills within Adults with LD services

Experience

  • Substantial experience of working within Adult LD services
  • Substantial experience of working as a qualified clinician in psychotherapeutic services
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychotherapeutic care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified clinician and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.

Experience

  • Experience of effective leadership within a multidisciplinary setting demonstrating a range of leadership skills.
