Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will be an integral member of the ward/department team responsible for the delivery of fundamental care to patients in a safe, caring and compassionate manner under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse/she must never undertake duties for which he/she is neither qualified nor trained to perform.

The Healthcare Assistant will primarily work within one ward are / Directorate, on occasions to Meet service needs and requirements the Healthcare Assistant will be required to work anywhere within The Trust. The Healthcare Assistant will work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 GCSE Grades A-D must include English and Maths
  • Key Skills / Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 1.
Desirable criteria
  • Key Skills / Functional Skills Numeracy, Literacy, Communication Level 2.
  • Basic IT Skills.
  • Level 2 QCF/NVQ Clinical Healthcare Support.
  • Level 2 QCF/NVQ Health & Social Care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment (at least six months experience).
  • Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly, verbally and written.
Desirable criteria
  • Has an understanding of infection prevention within a care setting.
  • Has an understanding of basic health care requirements
  • Has an understanding/awareness of the Data Protection Act
  • Acute hospital healthcare experience.
