We are a district general hospital based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire with a vision to provide first class consultant-delivered care to the children and families of Nuneaton, North Coventry, and West Leicestershire.   We see 2,200 births each year in our consultant-led maternity unit and have strong links with our LMNS partner hospitals.  Our Unit is friendly and led by eleven consultants (this will be the eleventh post).

We seek a dynamic, charismatic, and energetic individual with an interest in Early Pregnancy Assessment and Outpatient Gynaecology to lead our staff into a brave new era and fit in with our vision for our service.

Main duties of the job

  1. To support and complement both the Obstetrics and Gynaecology services provided by George Eliot Hospital NHS
  2. To take clinical responsibility for a defined cohort of women under their care
  3. To provide consultant presence on the Labour Ward 
  4. To participate in ‘Consultant of the week’ rota and to provide consultant cover for the Maternity Assessment Unit and Triage 
  5. To aid the lead clinician for the Gynae assessment unit and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.
  6. To be responsible for the obstetric training of junior staff and undergraduate students. 
  7. To assist in the smooth running of the newly established Gynae Assessment Unit and the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit in line with National Guidelines, liaising with other colleagues and the Gynaecology Modern Matron.
  8. The ability/interest in performing laparoscopic hysterectomies would be advantageous.
  9. To be involved in appraisal and assessment of junior staff and undergraduate students. 
  10. To take an active role in Clinical Governance, and lead and participate in audit projects relevant to clinic
  11. To promote research and academic activity within the department
  12. To attend Trust and Departmental induction and mandatory training
  13. To be responsible for Governance in Gynaecology in conjunction with the Matron for Gynaecology Services.
  14. To participate in any MDT – obstetric ad hoc, colposcopy if practiced and oncology if submitting a patient to be discussed

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Fully trained in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Clinical Knowledge and Expertise: Appropriateknowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems; demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence-based practice
  • ATSM in Out Patient Hysteroscopy
  • ATSM in EPAU management
  • IT Skills, ability to use web browser, excel, word etc
  • Willingness to develop skills and experience in areas of interest.
  • Evidence of regularly undertaking audits and management of change in line with the audit recommendations
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest.
  • Ability to perform/ interest in performing laparoscopic hysterectomies

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration, with licence to practice
  • MRCOG or Equivalent
  • Membership of relevant Specialist Societiesor Associations eg BSCCP
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree e.g., MSc, MD orequivalent
